Young Mausi (a nickname) leaves her hometown - a very small provincetown in northwestern Germany - to live in the city of Hamburg. Being about 18 years old she has just finished school and seeks her freedom away from home. She knows she loves women but never dared to live accordingly. In Hamburg she soon finds a lover and a good friend, too, and the strength to face the narrow-minded people at home. After struggling with it for some time she returns for a visit to tell at least her mother and best friend.

Inspired by the true story of Shabnam Mausi who overcame prejudice and became the first Hijra to be elected to public office in India. Shabnam (Ashutosh Rana) was born to a wealthy and privileged family, but when a band of eunuchs came to bless him not long after he was born, they discovered he too was a Hijra, and the infant was sent to live with others of his kind. Shabnam still has the love and support of his family, but not all the other hijras are so lucky, and one of the members of the group (Vishwajeet Padhan) kills Shabnam's brother in a fit of rage. Shabnam is blamed for the crime, and goes underground, relocating to a town where he comes to the rescue of a woman being sexually assaulted by a group of men. Shabnam's heroic act makes him a minor celebrity in the village, and he decides to use his new recognition to help drive a corrupt politician (Govind Namdeo) from office in an upcoming election.

The drugstore chain "Faber" is facing closure: company boss Max Faber has lost so much money through stock speculation that planned insolvency seems to him to be the only sensible way out. The jobs of all employees are at stake, but the chain's founder cares as little about this as he does about the modernization proposals of his own daughter Kerstin, who has always played second fiddle in the company empire. Fate brings Kerstin and Janine, one of the sales assistants in a branch, together, and together they take action against the redundancies and exploitative measures of Max Faber. But the highly explosive power struggle between father and daughter is far from over.

This film traces the story of the German-Jewish Auerbach family of oppingen, Germany from 1933 through 1945. The film begins with home movies in the 1930s and follows Inge Auerbach from her hometown to her deportation to Theresienstadt, where she suffered for 3 1/2 years and was among the 100 children who survived. Rare footage is accompanied by on-camera interviews of Inge and her mother on a return visit to their town, and to Theresienstadt, where an amazing amount of photographs and documents were saved. Interviews with former Nazi Party members, townspeople and the switchboard operator from Theresienstadt are conducted by German high school students and exposes German citizens who attempt to deny and conceal their involvement in the Holocaust.

German comedian and talkmaster Pierre M. Krause visits German stars at home and spends two days together with them.
